Siberia is calling

The album Arctic Chronicles is a visual impression of a Northern Siberian trip that took place in August 2017. The city of Salekhard, villages Antipayuta, Gyda and Yuribey, and last but least the magnificent tundra where I was living with my family in a chum (kind of a tippie) for almost a month. I was documenting the day-to-day life of a Nenets settlement in the middle of nowhere in Yamal peninsula.

The main goal is to share not only fascinating landscapes and mysterious indigenous culture, but at the same time demonstrate the perception of colour and geometry that has been formed over the last several years.

There are two editions: the first was released in English in 2019 in Moscow. It went to all parts of the world: the Netherlands, the US, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Israel, Germany, etc... The second saw the light in 2022 in Spanish in A Coruña thanks to Zlick Studio and includes illustrations by my dear friend and artist Lis Rivero.

This album is made a part of the Back to the Roots project.

Currently the photoalbum in Spanish is available for purchase at two spots in A Coruña:

El Garcia San Roque 18, A Coruña

Almacén Concept Store Olmos 7, A Coruña

At the event in Corrubedo, Anna was introduced by Xosé Antonio Ventoso, a Galician writer and activist, who praised her work, which he described as "surprising, sensitive and committed" to the culture of the nomadic Nenets people.

He added that her photos are captured with great honesty and that they exhibit people who shine with dignity. “In the photos of Anna there are few smiles, nor are they sad,” he said.

In addition, he celebrated the choice of the place to present this work, which for Ventoso could not be more opportune since "the resisters of the people of Anna are united with the resisters of the people of Corrubedo, who has always been attached to his land despite the hardness of the life".

As a photographer, I'd say it's necessary to share your vision and allow people to see what you see, and there's even more to that - you let people feel that they're (even for a tiny moment) a part of you.

I present to you my visual album “Arctic Chronicles" where in between the images you'll read the story of the indigenous Siberian tribe striving against being forgotten in this modern society. Take a look. Be a part of me.
